Årrenjarka, is beautifully situated on the lake Saggat. With the mighty and steep mountain Kassavare in the background it welcomes you to many fascinating experiences in nature. Årrenjarka is located 100 km west of Jokkmokk and 17 km from Kvikkjokk, the gateway to Sweden´s most magnificent nature, the national parks Sarek and Padjelanta, and the Laponian World Heritage Area.
Årrenjarka village has an ancient history. Excavations have shown that about 4000 years ago, during the New Stone age, this used to be an activity settlement. During the time of the year when there was no snow on the ground, people used to live here, to hunt , to fish and to collect materials to make tools from.
In 1811, Årrenjarka was marked out as a new settlement, and ever since the end of the 1820’s, it has been inhabited by people from the same family. In the spring of 1968 the last cows were sent away and tourism became the new source of income. But the village still has the character of being an agricultural district. Between the dwelling houses from different eras, you will see old log storehouses and barns, to remind us of the strenuous life during the pioneer time.
Today the cabin village is run by the fifth generation of the Mannberg family. During the last few years, the facilities have been modernized, reconstructed, and expanded. Since 1997 the owners have also been responsible for the synoptic weather station for SMHI.
